Well, well, well, another NaBlo under my belt! During a very busy month, too. Not all my posts were super quality but it's really helped me get back into making blogging a part of my schedule. I miss it when I don't.
I won't lie. I'm really tired and sort of lacking for subject matter today. I didn't sleep a wink on Saturday night, which is strange for me, and yesterday we spent five hours on the road (well, I did catch a few winks in the car), and then we had to feed our LOST addiction.
I FINALLY understand what the deal is with that show! Wow, talk about sucking you in with its bizarreness. I'm about halfway through the first season (thank you again Netflix) with William and we are totally, completely obsessed. He has to work late tonight and I'm anxiously awaiting him to come home so we can at least watch one show.
Otherwise, I'm gearing up for my first full month at the gym. Tomorrow is an hour of cardio and an hour of weightlifting. So far, the scale hasn't budged, but I do feel like I can see some very minor changes. So, hey! It's something.
OK, really, I think I'm down to about six brain cells. More tomorrow.

Growing Pains
Seriously, I do not recall a time when I've known such muscle pain.
My thighs are screaming. If I sit, which makes the pain go away, when I stand up, my muscles lock up. A few times they've just sort of buckled under me. And some cruel twist of fate is making me drop everything I pick up, and bending over is ... horrible.
Yet, I went back to the gym this morning to stretch out in a yoga/pilates class. I can't imagine how much stiffer I'd be if I hadn't. Maybe negligible, but it seems like it helped a bit to warm me up.
Then, an afternoon with my family to celebrate Wm's birthday. Lasagne, pear/gorgonzola salad, squash soup with bacon and roasted squash seeds, and flourless chocolate cake with Haagen-Daz ice cream. Mmmmm.
My body is simultaneously ravenously hungry—we're talking hunger PANGS here, people—and exhausted.
After a really productive, busy weekend, I'm finally going to eat some Triscuits (black pepper ones) and sharp cheddar pub cheese, and read Vanity Fair and watch TV. Ahhhh.

Weighty Issues
Today, I took my first weightlifting class. Yep.
I think tomorrow is going to hurt really, really, really, really badly. And I have a yoga/pilates class in the morning. Greeeeat.
But seriously though, despite the pain, I'm feeling good. As in, Really Good. I haven't had a stomachache in DAYS. DAYS! And I think that maybe I'm feeling my energy level picking up a little, which Jesus God Hallelujah! Because I don't have a lot of energy typically.
I also have found myself feeling absolutely STARVING the last couple days. That has got to mean that I'm burning up the calories, but nothing has changed outwardly. I feel like I'm off to a really good start.
Otherwise, today has been a typical Saturday. Dog to the groomer, errands, cleaning, laundry. But it feels good to be productive and done.
On tap tonight: takeout and friend time at home.
Happy day.

Rock My Body
Dudes. I joined a gym, 'member? So I went to my first class this morning, which is a combo of tai chi, power yoga, and pilates. I thought a class with the name "Flow" in the title might really be kind of nice and soothing. Nooooot really. It felt great, though, and I really liked the class, as did Sister Soup. Plus it was set to music, and I loved that. I'm feeling more confident about hitting up classes now, too.
But um, I kind of want to die. I had to bow out of a couple of moves early, because my thighs were a-burnin'. Bad. I am pretty sure stairs are going to feel hellacious tomorrow. I'm a little scared. And I felt super tired the rest of the day (the class ran from 10-11). I guess I'm just not at the point where I feel energized by exercising. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?
Besides that, I went to see This Is It (FINALLY) with my mom this afternoon.
It. Was. AWESOME.
It only made me love MJ more. Seriously. There are some darling moments. And let me tell you, he was too skinny, but any reports that he was frail or sickly--nuh uh. That man was moving and grooving and clearly loving plotting his return to the limelight.
You have to wonder, if he hadn't died. Would it have been spectacular enough to win over all the haters? Would it have re-cemented him as a star, or would it have seemed desperate to most? My money is that it would have been a total hit. He was really planning something amazing, and it's all this imploded potential. All this footage, when Michael is singing like an angel and doing his particular brand of hover-dancing...it's tragic to think it never became something.
They pulled some of the best dancers and singers from around the world for this show, and as they backed him up onstage during rehearsal, I couldn't help but think they couldn't even touch his talent.
Sooo, that's pretty much all the news fit to print today.

Friday night lights
Here's what I love about Friday nights:
Coming home from work, usually off a short happy hour.
Eating takeout with my husband and good conversation.
Watching a movie or catching up on TV and snuggling with the Miggle.
Sleeeeeeeeep.

Summer Hours
Everyone's been noticing a dearth of blogging this summer, and I'm no exception. I'm trying to keep up on everyone's lives and leaving comments so you know I'm around, but life has been extremely hectic this summer. Nearly every weekend is booked up for the rest of the summer; it's kind of overwhelming. Some nights there are three or four things happening. I don't want to miss any of it; yet sometimes I feel myself missing some free time, some me time, some putter-around-the-house time. I'm trying to combat it by being organized--lists, calendars, planning ahead (gasp! not that!)
Unfortunately, blogging falls off the list when we finally tumble home. We've both been working a lot and then there are the social funnesses to attend to. But we have no intention of leaving you. Or our laundry. (Which, incidentally, sadly, may be worse off than this blog.) So, with everything swirling around, this blog has been on a bit of summer hours.
This weekend was near-perfect, though. Friday night was the celebration of a very dear friend's impending BABIES. That's right, two'ems, two girls! In the merriment of finding out, she hosted a cookout and we had a good time, eating crispy-skinned brats with sweet relish and pasta salads...all the good things cookouts entail. To cap off the night, we sat around the bonfire, laughing and trading stories.
Saturday proved to be a planning day, errands, organization, cleaning. Then, my bathroom was converted into Salon Kat as I dyed Cindy's hair. It turned out really well. I can at least indulge my inner beauty geek sometimes!
Saturday night led to seeing The Hangover. I'm always leery when people tell me something is SOOOOO funny. . . but this lived up to its expectations. Lots of people laughing in the theater is always fun, too. Then we headed to fireworks for a local city celebration (tuned to, funny enough, God Bless America, Thriller, and Sweet Caroline) and carnie-watching. Finally, drinks at a nearby watering hole. Bomb pop shots and pizza... and two mischevious girls manning the juke box. There was lots of dancing by two of us, and lots more laughing.
Sunday dawned beautiful (at least...the morning was pretty when I finally opened my eyes around 10:30, ahem), so we headed out to the Farmers' Market, one of my favorite, favorite, favorite activities. I just absolutely love wandering around, smelling all the smells, taste-testing local farmers' wares, and coming home with far too much fresh produce and an armload of flowers. Since we were latecomers to the party, flowers were steeply on sale...I got tons of lemon-yellow dragonsnaps, blue salvia, purple gladiolus, and broad-faced sunflowers for like $10. William and Molly waited for me at the kitty-corner coffee shop while I bought veggies to my heart's delight. It was so beautiful outside that we sat and enjoyed the sun at the coffee shop a little longer. Molly loved ice cubes from our frosty Thai coffees, and we met lots of interesting dog-parents and artisans, and watched throngs of people ant-marching to the Cirque du Soleil show that afternoon. (Mom, we must have missed you!)
After our slow stroll home, we ran some more errands (soon some photos of a new furniture project we're embarking upon), then friends called with good news: they were only a couple of miles away, with their month-old baby in hand--and they wanted to stop and visit. Oh baby! We were excited they were feeling up to going out and about and hanging out with us and, truth be told, I wanted to hold the baby. :) They ended up staying for dinner, and I made BBQ ribs, baby bok choy with ginger and garlic, cornbread with honey butter, and caprese salad. YUM. Then we watched the Twins game on the teevee, and called it a night.
Belly laughing with friends, eating good food, good conversation and happiness with William, sitting in the sun, holding a new baby. It's one of the best weekends I've had in a while. Sometimes, summer is just so good.
Photos and more fun to come.

Seven More Days
Seven more days of blogging every day....can I make it? I've actually enjoyed blogging every day but I think the quality veers a little south.
This weekend has been quite lovely for a variety of reasons: staying at aloft (a W hotel that has this younger, hipper, less-expensive-more-style feel) with William for his birthday, dinner at Jax (a supper clubby steakhouse type place) for his birthday dinner, supa tasty drinks at Spoonriver (a natural, healthy, organic, lovely place) afterward--he had mojitos, I had a "tequila mockingbird," which tasted like grownup Pixy Stix--a lovely morning sleeping in, leftover steak with eggs this morning. Good conversation, lots of laughs, a snuggly home to return to. Making fleece blankets with my friend for her class, a short trip to Target.
Now it's 5:30 and I'm sad my weekend is drawing to a close....and now the administrative part of the weekend begins....
What did you get up to this weekend?

Forces Pulling from the Center of the Earth Again
Today, I had mindbendingly-long work session in which I feel that my coworker and I should now be awarded a PhD in statistics, even though I can only speak for myself in that I have major issues with simple addition, let alone anything past basic, basic algebra. I feel smart. SMART. We are going to take over the world.
Then: long happy hour to celebrate four (4) people's birthdays. Packed like sardines. Loud people. Frat people. Too loud. Too much.
Then: quick stop at grocery store for NY Strip steaks.
Then: visit with my dad. Pick up my sweet, sweet mutt.
Then: Go home, toasty home, with husband and mutt, cook steaks, asparagus, broiled/toasted cheesy bread. Red wine. Ice water. Candles. Good conversation.
Now: Blogging.
Next: Some administrative stuff surrounding my freelance work. Working a LOT these days. Is good.
Then: Sleep, glorious sleep.
PS: Made major grammatical error and used "that" instead of "who" in last post. Makes my hair stand up on the back of my neck. Promise to avoid those errors in future. What was I thinking? Oh yeah, post-cupcake haze. Mmmmm cupcakes.

Sundays
Even though sometimes I get the blues on Sundays, thinking about gearing up for a new week, I've really come to enjoy them.
Now that football season is in full swing, William isn't around as much as he used to be on Sundays but I still luck out occasionally and he makes me blueberry or chocolate chip waffles while I wake up. Reading the Sunday paper. Not feeling pressured to get going early for any reason.
Today I woke pretty late (and I still need more sleep I think), and made trips to Trader Joe's and Target, getting groceries in order. I made a homemade mac-and-cheese hot dish (casserole for you non-Minnesotans), and cleaned up. Now I have the evening to read, watch my weekly cryfest (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition), finish the paper, have a snack, and snuggle up with a newly-groomed Mo and a cute husband.
It's getting colder and colder out, which makes me enjoy the comfort food and blankets all the more, even if I resist the idea that my birthday, and thus winter, are right around the corner. I can't believe I'm going to be 28. It's just weird.
That's really all I've got. It's been a nice, quiet day.

Banner/Update/Looking Forward to Weekend
So, now I really realize you must all be reading through Google Reader. I changed my banner! No one noticed! The entry was related somewhat to the banner, in case you were wondering if I'd gone off the deep end.
No, really, we are going to make some aesthetic changes over here in willikatland, but William had made this joke banner for me, but I thought we'd put it up for the time being.
Today was a long day of work, and then some nice time with some friends, but I have a ton coming up in the next couple of days and a lot to do, so I must keep this entry short (again).
Dad is recovering, but is experiencing some swelling and pain. Poor Daddy. I hope he starts to feel better soon, because I know how long days feel when you're in pain or sick. It's not fair, and I hate to see him feeling icky.
It's been very dark and rainy and cold and rather depressing, weather-wise, around these parts lately. Bright spots:
Weekend soon!
Catching up with some good friends Friday night...friends from my first job out of college, and we've all managed to stay in pretty good touch. It's amazing to see how we've grown and changed, even in the last five years, and we always have a good time together. I'm looking forward to some laughs, drinks, and snacks with my Lillie friends.
Saturday, dance class, hopefully lots of sleep, hanging with William, and then Girls' Night--we're trying to do some recurring nights to get together to just make sure we're spending time together. Tomorrow night's theme: a throwback to the old days, come in PJs, fondue, girl talk. Looking forward to that too.
Sunday, glorious Sunday...I'm sleeping in. After that, who knows. Ahhhh, an open day. Heaven.

Weekend Update
Despite my feeling very crappy for the last, oh, seven or so days, I did have a few highs this weekend.
Friday night: eating spectacular tom yum soup from our favorite Thai place and not getting sick. Watching movies—yes, you can rent them for $1 a night at McDonald's and some grocery stores, for those of you who asked the last time—with my honey, on the couch. (Saw: Sex and the City, Leatherheads, Forgetting Sarah Marshall).
Saturday: learning the art of bellydancing for an hour and a half with my sister. It's hard! We giggle a lot. Still, I feel I get a good workout, hear fun middle eastern club music, and I think I do feel better afterward. Hips are so sore.
A beautiful wedding of some friends. So sophisticated with champagne and cream colors everywhere. A fun couple with great taste. Outside on the Mississippi just a few blocks from our home. I was so happy for them. And it was a little reminder of where I was four months ago.
Then, a be-still-my-heart moment: A night with Liz Phair...where she performed the entirety of Exile in Guyville in order, plus an encore of a new song, Chopsticks, May Queen, Polyester Bride. I know I've written about how I've met Liz before, and how much I love her, but this was like the concert of my life. Exile in Guyville is my favorite album of all time. I can listen to it in any mood. It understands me. When I'm feeling lonely, sad, happy, frustrated, elated, angry, moody, thoughtful, or content, it speaks to me. Fatty and I had great sightlines, very close. It makes my heart so big that she decided to do this tour, 15 years after the album was being released. I'm still having trouble putting it into words. I had a big dumb smile on my face all night, I rocked out. After a long, shitty week, it was a welcome, needed, and loved couple of hours.
Today: running errands with a friend, having a gift card to the bookstore (bought: The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami, Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz), Simply Orange and waffles with my honey, making a "real" dinner, as William called it: meatloaf, roasted potatoes, and squash. And it tasted like the best thing ever. And it agreed with me.
Bonus: fall clothes, getting rolled out! I was hoping that there would be some things packed away I'd forgotten about, but was a little bummed to find that's not the case. Sad day! But hooray for scarves and skinny jeans with tall boots.

Weekend Roundup
Well, that was a rather rambunctious post, wasn't it? I wouldn't be surprised if there were more...after all, today John McCain is saying there's nothing wrong with the economy....I think we should all be able to agree after today's Wall Street ending that there's something wrong with the economy. We might disagree about how to fix it, but that's another story.
I don't intend for any readers to feel berated for coming here, but I feel very strongly about this election.
Moving on...
So, this weekend certainly had its fun moments, but I spent most of it feeling a little under the weather. Friday I was super stoked because William and I had planned a date night. While we really enjoy spending time together, we have been taking it easy with the dates, because we have spent so much money this year on the wedding and my not having a job. Even though I'm definitely still feeling the pinch, we decided to go out anyway.
I got home and we got ready right away to go to our favorite Thai restaurant. I was honestly a little giddy that we were going out. I maybe don't always express to William or to the world how much I love when we go out or how cute I think he is, or how I still giggle and turn red when he flirts with me. We ate a TON of food—we were both starving—and then it set in. The stomachache. I have a lot of stomach problems. Heartburn, cramps, sickness...it's a regular occurrence. I don't really need to get into details on the internet, but I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions.
But I was DETERMINED! We were going to eat good food and then go see the new Coen brothers movie, which I (unfortunately still am) psyched to see. I felt like I might explode, but I wanted to power through and see the movie with my honey. We went to the movie theater and discovered the time we wanted to see the movie was sold out, and the next one was like two hours away. Um, no. In a regular case I wouldn't want to wait that long, and especially since I was not feeling good I wasn't going to wait. So we reluctantly left, and rented a couple movies at McDonald's: Definitely Maybe and The Air I Breathe.
The Air I Breathe was terrible. We watched the whole thing but the plot really made no sense. It was quite B-movie despite all the good actors in it.
Definitely Maybe though? Was GREAT! I was so pleasantly surprised. It's a great little movie, cute rom-com. I go back and forth on how I feel about Ryan Reynolds, but I actually thought he was super hot in this, and he was really, really good in it, too. And to me, Abigail Breslin is always cute, and never crosses that saccharine line. Still, I felt bad that our date night fizzled a bit.
We each had our own things to do during the day, and then I had a fun bachelorette party at night. Lovely, lovely food—great job, ladies—and lots of laughs, including some jokes with Found Out About Me.
Sunday I had breakfast with another lovely non-blogging friend who moved out of town a couple years ago. I really miss her. We have a lot in common and we always have tons to talk about from books and movies and tv to jobs and relationships and big life decisions. Sometimes there are just people you click with and it's so easy to be friends with them, even if distance separates you.
Then there's the headache that developed on Sunday afternoon. it began as a little niggling ache, and I should know better and take something right away. But I didn't, and I neglected to really take time to care about myself on Sunday by running from place to place. Well, around 6 pm my brain had had enough. I was down for the count. I couldn't look at light, the TV, the Sunday newspaper...sounds made it worse, and even the pillow felt like it hurt. I could feel it radiating down my jaw, through my teeth. I was miserable.
William and I were hungry, but we hadn't grocery shopped, so there wasn't much to make a meal from. Luckily we had hit up the farmers' market, so we had some snacks to munch on...William chopped up some veggies and fruit and we snacked on the couch while I basically hid my eyes from any light stimulation. After the food kicked in and the Advil worked its magic, I was at least able to come out of my hidey-hole and watch Wedding Crashers and Old School (Vince Vaughn!) with William. I still wasn't feeling super great, so William rubbed my shoulders and arms and head while I laid on the couch. It felt amazing and was one of those acts of kindness that I truly appreciated. I had pretty much been a downer all weekend around William with my various aches and pains, but he was so understanding and loving about them. Thanks, love. I promise a more fun weekend next time.
So that was the weekend. And now we're back to our regularly scheduled blog programming.
Did you do anything fun?
Um, no. In a regular case I wouldn't want to wait that long, and especially since I was not feeling good I wasn't going to wait. seeking wedding advice
hi friends--i have questions:
if i have to have my numbers to my caterer by may 14, BY WHEN should i have people rsvp? i know i probably have to give people a certain amount of time, plus then enough time for the late responders. HELP! I need a pretty immediate answer, because i don't think about stuff good enuf sometimes.
i can't get my invites unless i'm lucky until april 11, so please tell me that's enough time.
pleasepleaseplease.
also, this weekend i lost my phone, but a nice man recovered it and called my mom. rock on! kinda helped when today is the kind of day where you just want to sleep and mope with the crappy rain and no sun.
although my best girls and mom are planning my bridal shower, and we all had breakfast together and that was fun! i heart the good earth restaurant.
lots of dancing and drinks this weekend. friday night was a girls night out dancing. it was so much fun, that i could barely walk by the end of the night because my feet hurt so badly (this also made most of us feel old--we were all feeling the pain by the end of the night.) but it felt so good to get out, shake the booty, laugh, and dance with my girls. we'll miss the departure of our friend m, who's moving to sweden in a mere two weeks (actually, less). :(
last night was found otu about me's birthday party which was also very fun! thanks for the guac, ang! she rallied even though she broke a bowl and needed stitches on her hand right before the party!
ok. that's a pretty lame update but all i can manage right now. i ahve a million things to do before bed.
looooove yall.

morning
this morning, when i woke up, i rolled over, opened my eyes, and saw william looking straight at me. (he was probably willing me to wake up with his eyes.)
i have no idea what i looked like, although i imagine it was bleary-eyed and probably squinchy-faced.
he smiled at me. i maybe tenatively smiled back.
he said: "I love you. I love you so much I'm marrying you. I love you!"
we're getting married. it's getting more and more real as the time passes. which is normal i suppose.
we finished our save the dates for the most part. just a few stragglers left that i'm getting addresses for or some little detail for. but they're going out this week.
when we finished printing, addressing, stuffing, sealing. . . william said "well, it's real now! no going back!"
not every day is easy or perfect or sometimes even peaceful.
but most mornings, i wake up, and william is smiling at me. and we go to bed, and he tells me he loves me. i say it back, of course.
sometimes my heart just wants to explode.
he loves me even when i'm horrible and ugly in the morning.

saw juno this weekend. laughed and bawled. loved it. had a VERY real dream that iw as pregnant that night. i got bigger as the dream went on, i broke the news to people, one of my best friends told me she would throw me a shower. i was nervous but happy. it's weird that i'm getting to a point where this could actually happen. it won't anytime soon, but it could. and that's weird. growing up.

i actually had a rather romantic weekend with william. we went on a date on friday! dinner and a movie. went to great waters brewing company for burgers and beers--both were good. they are a microbrew downtown. we walked, and it was warmish outside, but flakes were falling. we don't live in our neighborhood enough; i was glad to walk somewhere, have dinner at a local joint, walk back. hearing the crunch-squeak-crunch under our feet, praying not to slip, flakes hitting our eyelashes, steamy breath in the air. it was just. nice.

saturday was the save the dates extravaganza. i'm lucky william likes to be so involved with wedding planning. then no one has to feel put-upon to help me. they can just enjoy the festivities. he is also designing our invites, although the time we poured into the save-the-dates definitely convinced hiim that hiring out the job was far preferable than doing those. i am dying for letterpress invites; i'm obsessed with letterpress. i wish i had my own press!
******************
i have been doing more thinking about this new year's resolutions thing. i have done a little, but not enough, exercising. i took a fairly significant amount of money from my bonus at christmas to put toward my debt.
but i think the other resolution i should work on is being more in the moment. celebrating more good things. so often i let myself get preoccupied with the "little stuff". i should be done with that. after all, it's really bad for your health. seriously. too much cortisol in your body, too much anxiety...and for what? i won't worry less, but i'm going to try. or at least enjoy the hell out of the other stuff so that it far outweighs my stupid little worries.

the budget bride continues. today i nabbed what i think will be my wedding clutch. it's hot pink! and has a big bow on it! it's from the hollywould collection that was at target. it was originally $19.99, but i even balked at that, and ended up getting it on clearance for $9.99 this morning. i'm kinda proud of our budget wedding. we'll splurge on some things, of course--we are going to hawaii after all--but other things we've managed to keep costs really reasonable. and get most, if not all, the things we've wanted so far. my two bridesmaids dresses and mine added together total less than $225. total. for all three dresses. and they were all $250 or $500 dresses. we did our own save-the-dates. we will get a good deal on our invites. so far, everything has been fairly manageable. one thing we're doing on our honeymoon, and subsequently part of the reason we did small, small birthdays and christmas this year, is that we're going to take a helicopter ride through the grand canyon of the pacific on kauai. but i was looking on line and found a great deal if you pre-book. it was much more reasonable than i thought . . . for an hour of helicopter ride. my only hope is that i don't freak. i don't like flying. actually it scares the shit out of me, and i usually xanax up for flights. but i can't do that for this! maybe a glass of wine or a half a benedryl or something. . . .or maybe i'll suck it up and maybe it will be so awesome i'll never take a xanax again.
***************************
went shopping today. found the greatest pair of heels. i am in so love. will take photo. i owe a lot of photos, i realize. went with my girlfriends. it seems like it gets harder to carve out time for friends, but i seriously cherish the time we have together. we laugh, we shop, we talk. the talking's my favorite part. even when i find in-love-with-them heels. and i seriously respect their opinions.
wow! this is a long one, so i'm signing off.

twenty years of snow fallin'
yesterday the reports started coming in. the first real storm of the winter. now, just because we are minnesotan doesn't mean we don't get freaked out for the first real snow. they had maps, they had dopplar, they had the vipir machine going--a meteorologist's dream.
i figured, hah. it's never as bad as they make it. at 2 am, it was still not snowing. this morning is another story. it's coming down, and not in that cute, christmas-movie, snowglobe-y way. it's small pellets of snow, hurtling down to earth at a 45-degree angle. i took molly out. she loves the snow. the world sounds. . . insulated or noiseproofed when it's snowing. cars don't seem as loud, you can't hear your footfalls (unless the snow is squeaky), less people are out and about. it's kind of a cool non-sound, actually.
mo loves snow. she was prancing around and kicking her feet and shaking her body like crazy. cute to watch. when it gets deeper, she'll roll in it and stick her face in and look at me with nostrils full of snow. at least, she did last year.
william is at a friend's bachelor party in chicago this weekend, so i'm on my own with mo. girl's weekend! my sister and mom are similarly widowed, as well as my brother's girlfriend. (those guys are hunting.) i woke up this morning and the two of us girls were taking up the whole bed. we snuggled and dozed together without any morning people up and about. now mo is back to sleep on the couch next to me, and i'm contemplating my next, slow, lazy move. maybe make some coffee although it is 11:30 already.
tonight i'm going to see the chamber orchestra play. sister has season tickets with her hub, but he's gone, so i'm taking his place. we're going to stop and have flirtinis at pazzaluna, the restaurant next to the ordway. i'm just going to sleep at her house tonight so i don't have to do a lot of extra driving around in the drifts.
not a bad day/night for the first snow.
ps. so i missed two days for nablo. not bad for my first, right? one was due to internet error, too, so i tried to blog, but was thwarted. the last day? i fell down before the finish line.

what is it good for?
war. . . hooah. . . good god, y'all. . . what is it good for? absolutely nothing!
so this morning i had a bit of an ick-o stomachache. and for some reason, jamba juice seems to help this problem, so i headed over there. on the way is a liberal arts college campus and there's usually something to see happening there. this morning a bunch of people were standing outside on the corner with signs. some carried peace signs, some said "honk for peace", some said "war$ kill kids", some said "time to impeach". it made my heart bigger. sometimes i wonder if anyone is paying any attention anymore. . .or if we've all become numb to the violence and tired of the political b.s. here are these people—and granted, it's warmer and sunnier today than it could be—but it's still cold and windy and they're out there, thirty or so people, reminding all of us that at the holiday time, there are terrible things that need to end.
i passed them again on the way back and honked. and as i drove down the street, i listened and watched in my rearview mirror, as every car that was behind me at the stoplight honked.
peace and jamba juices all around.

cleaning spree
whoa. i woke up this morning and intended to do the dishes and clean up the kitchen a bit. and that launched me into a full-fledged cleaning spree. i'm sitting ont he couch now, feel ing pretty proud of myself. bathroom? sparkling. kitchen? same. i organized/cleaned my closet, sorted some products into their proper drawers, put spring clothes in boxes to put downstairs, etc. we found envelopes and ordered them for our save-the-dates. william cleaned up some stuff too--we dusted and swept and all that stuff. if only the spirit would move us a little more often. . .
tonight we're going to see a friend play a little concert. right now, we're both recovering from cleaning.
oh: nerdy. last night we watched the miniseries of Battlestar Galactica. i was totally a hater before, but i gave it a chance, and i have to say, it surpassed my expectations. i will give season one a chance.
also: finished time-travelers wife. whoa, sci-fi week. anyway, totally wonderful book. i completely forgot about the time travel, in a way. it was more like unrequited love. . .sorta. anyway, it was so good and once i got about 200 pages in (it's a 500-something page novel) i was totally hooked and couldn't put it down. i think i'll start specialty topics in calamity physics next.
i have to stop typing now because momo the wonder dog is taking over the keyboard and my hands--she literally just put her paw on top of my hand. oh, my heart.

sunday, sunday
it's been a classic sunday. lately i have been compelled to run around on sundays and get things done so that during the week i don't feel so harried. but i have monday and tuesday off, so i spent it thusly:
slept til 10ish.
read both newspapers.
ate a deluxe omelet made by william, with cheese, red pepper, and onions
read about 200 pages in the time traveler's wife--i'm totally sucked in (i'm sure i've put it down for the night)
took a nap (about one hour)
washed the dishes and did some general cleaning-up
shopped online (it's too cold and rainy and i'm too unmotivated to go anywhere)
snuggled with molly
gearing up for dinner
it's a gross november day here. totally gray (and now dark outside), rainy, cold, windy. i'm sleepy, despite my lack of activity today. tomorrow and tuesday: who knows! william's birthday is on tuesday, but we've agreed to do no presents this year because we're trying to save for the wedding. maybe we'll do dinner or something of the like. we should do wedding stuff: we've still not done the save the dates or registered. we did, however, book our lodging yesterday in kauai for our honeymoon! we are so excited. i think it will be a great place. ocean view, modern decor. south side. one step closer! now that we've booked our travel plans, that has made it even more real. we're really going! to hawaii! to get married! i'm so glad we've stuck to our plan.

the funky four corners
sharon jones last night: fantastic. if she comes to your town, make sure that you see her and the dap kings.
this is what you will get:
a heaping spoonful of shimmying, shaking, jazz theatrics, motown backup dancing, and aretha-like vocals. you'll get some humor, some carnival barking, a red velvet curtain and, maybe, a cover of janet jackson's "what have you done for me lately?"
you will get, i hope, a song in which she recreates all the dances they did while she was growing up in augusta, georgia: the jerk, the mashed potato, the funky four corners, and a few others i wasn't aware of. she will perform them, to a T, for you. you might get a stellar cover of james brown's "it's a man's, man's, man's world."
you will get the fabulous new song, also the newest album title, "100 days, 100 nights." we got delights off her last record, "my man is a mean man," "how long do i have to wait," and "how do i let a good man down," one of my favorites. she didn't play stranded, which is my absolute favorite.
we got a show. and it was $11. criminal.
if you love motown, sharon is for you. if you love jazzy beats, sharon jones is for you. if you smile at that baptist style come-to-jesus singing, sharon jones is for you. all the dap kings wore suits; one wore sunglasses a la the blues brothers. the horn section danced (the trumpet player was phenomenal).
but what i love most about sharon jones. . . is her confidence. this woman is amazing. she has this beautiful soul sista voice, so powerful. her arms and legs are so, so muscular and beautiful. she has not one iota of inhibition on stage, shaking her curves every which way. she knows she's hot. she rocked it. and she's over 50. yeah. you'd never know it. she kicks amy winehouse squarely in the butt.
tonight: shopping with one of the bestiest friends in the whole wide world. yay!!!

it's friday night (oh what a night)
ahhhh, friday. and i have monday and tuesday off!!!! fantastic. i'm sooo looking forward to this. i just finishedup a bunch of work and can make some dinner and get ready to see sharon jones at first ave.
if you don't know who sharon jones is, educate, baby! she is a soul singer that sounds straight outta motown heyday times. her backing band is the dap kings, who also backs amy winehouse. she has an amazing voice and is criminally underrated. this woman should be everywhere. i'm extremely excited to see her tonight. also, the $10 ticket price doesn't hurt.
it's been a peaceful day at home, working. i like working from home. mo has been snuggled up on the couch with me all day while i have been typing away.
uhoh. internet acting strange again. i better post so i make sure to get this one in. i'm so disappointed i missed last night. :(
