i hate being sick

i'm uncomfortable. my lungs feel like hot bricks. i can't sleep because i can't stop coughing. and there's nothing we can do, according to the doctor. so i'm double-fisting this st. patty's day weekend—ice water and tea with honey.
this is NOT paying homage to my irish roots at ALL. so not attractive.

i'm sitting here thinking these thoughts

today as a result of my job, i met a celebrity hairstylist. who often does makeovers. who said i should cut my hair. not happening anytime soon. but i did love him anyway.

today i had a funny conversation with my parents about everyday things. and i had a good giggle with them and they finished each others sentences and my mom tried to give me soup and my dad was pretending to be grumpy... and it's just such a good feeling. to have awesome parents. who are fun and we all love each other. and i realize how fragile those things are in this world, how tenuous of a grip love and true friendship can be. and i really do find myself, if not daily, at least on a weekly basis, feeling so happy that i have a family i can count on.

right now william is washing his bike gear and molly is snuffling on her favorite chair, and the heat is running, and i can hear myself typing, and it feels snug. and like home.

i have developed a weird dry cough in the last couple days (shortly after the accidental shrimp-eating incident) that is only occasionally somewhat helpful. but mostly the tickle resides in my throat like a mosquito in your ear in the dark. and it's so annoying, to me, but also probably to everyone around me. sorry everyone.

i had lunch with my friend fatty today. it was a late, last-minute thing. we gushed, for the eleventy millionth, but certainly not last, time about having FIFTEENTH row tickets to see tom petty this summer. rock and roll heaven. luckily we have good enough senses of humor about ourselves to ignore or poke fun at our differences in order to remain good friends (he's turning into a conservative old white man, i'm a crazy creative liberal). one of my few from college. hey fatty, how about you get me and cindy some squirt guns for hawaii??? come on, dude.

lately i have felt a little down. i don't know why, considering the impending fun that is about to explode in like 76 days. it's the weather maybe, or just those tectonic life shifts that are so much more like icebergs. . . way below the surface, your life changing, raw, new nerves exposed.

that said, don't worry! i'm ok. just stress and lack of sleep, most likely. and a lack of reading lately too. just started a new book, one mississippi (not as fun to type as to physically write, by the way) and i'm really liking it. also an interview with the cloons in esquire never hurt a girl's happiness!

i wish i could find a way to bottle up "getting in the zone". you know, where you hit this productivity high and can do a bunch of stuff in a hour and feel good about it and not think about sitting on the couch once? yeah bottle that up and take it when you need it. that would be awesome.

also, am i doomed to be a messy person forever?

today i got to wear my new raincoat. it was pretty fun! i have a thing about coats and jackets. it's getting worse. my little addictive personality...

ok. time for grilled cheese and tomato soup. the gourmet kind in the gold box. :) it's rainy and i'm lazy. and that just sounds right for a cough, right?

ring-a-ding-ding

so, cross off our list of Adult Responsibilities or Adult Milestones: buying engagement rings and wedding bands.
william picked out a very beautiful diamond and ring for me when he proposed. it was a tiffany setting, a nice, weighty white gold band. i was super happy with it. but then when we started looking around for a band to match for the wedding...i was coming up empty. nothing looked quite right with it. i didn't want to give up what william had worked so hard to pick out—it's sentimental, and i liked it—but finally we started looking at other engagement rings.
we finally found it:

i'm so happy with it. it looks extra sparkly and sort of vintage—i wanted a vintage ring but couldn't find one. william doesn't like if i put on the band with it... so you'll have to wait to see the other part. :)

78 days. omg.

addled

that last post... is so indicative of my mind these last few days/weeks. there is so much, so much to do just in every aspect of my life. details flailing around me everywhere, and i feel like i'm failing at picking them all up and getting them set in the right order, something that i used to be really good at!
i know it's a common refrain–there just aren't enough hours in the day... but lately, there aren't. and i can't do the not-sleep thing anymore, like i used to. it's 9:16 and i'm ready to go to bed...but Project Runway is on! i feel like i miss out on a lot of social engagements, hanging out with my mom and dad, spending real quality time with william, and i am definitely missing out on relax katie time. i used to read a book a week; now it's an accomplishment to finish one in a month. i don't have time to pet mo like i like to, play with her, really really talk to william or anyone else for that matter. i certainly don't have time to sit down and do some quality writing here. i need an oil change. i did laundry tonight so that should help for a while.
i just have a lot of irons in the fire. don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to whine, as i hold myself to high standards usually and i want to be everything to everyone and i can't be, and it's all a big push for the next couple months and then i will be in hawaii (happy place). and then i can try and go back to a new normal life. it's just learning to balance it all.
i so tired.

thank you!

thanks for the responses! so helpful. may fifth it is! william finished designing them tonight. my only qualm right now is whether to use my full first name, which i almost never use, or if i should use what people call me all the time. i'm thinking i might just go with what people call me all the time. although it's the one formal thing i'll ever do in my life! :)
ah, decisions, decisions.
ok, formal name it is.
so busy again starting out the week... i need sleep!i couldn't wake up all day today.

seeking wedding advice

hi friends--i have questions:
if i have to have my numbers to my caterer by may 14, BY WHEN should i have people rsvp? i know i probably have to give people a certain amount of time, plus then enough time for the late responders. HELP! I need a pretty immediate answer, because i don't think about stuff good enuf sometimes.
i can't get my invites unless i'm lucky until april 11, so please tell me that's enough time.
pleasepleaseplease.

also, this weekend i lost my phone, but a nice man recovered it and called my mom. rock on! kinda helped when today is the kind of day where you just want to sleep and mope with the crappy rain and no sun.

although my best girls and mom are planning my bridal shower, and we all had breakfast together and that was fun! i heart the good earth restaurant.

lots of dancing and drinks this weekend. friday night was a girls night out dancing. it was so much fun, that i could barely walk by the end of the night because my feet hurt so badly (this also made most of us feel old--we were all feeling the pain by the end of the night.) but it felt so good to get out, shake the booty, laugh, and dance with my girls. we'll miss the departure of our friend m, who's moving to sweden in a mere two weeks (actually, less). :(
last night was found otu about me's birthday party which was also very fun! thanks for the guac, ang! she rallied even though she broke a bowl and needed stitches on her hand right before the party!

ok. that's a pretty lame update but all i can manage right now. i ahve a million things to do before bed.

looooove yall.
