Landslide and other random news

When the Smashing Pumpkins covered Landslide, I thought, "Why? Why that song?" And when the Dixie Chicks covered it, I was all like "What is UP with that song?"

And now when I hear Stevie Nicks sing it (who does it best, in my mind), I often cry. There are still parts I'm taking apart and thinking about, things that don't apply, but I guess I'm just of an age that a lot of it resonates with me. That's part of why I love rock and roll.

i took my love, i took it down
climbed a mountain and i turned around
and i saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'til the landslide brought it down
oh, mirror in the sky
-what is love?
-can the child within my heart rise above?
-can i sail thru the changin' ocean tides?
-can i handle the seasons of my life?
i don't know.....
well, i've been afraid of changin'
'cause i've built my life around you
but time makes you bolder
even children get older
and i'm getting older too
oh, take my love, take it down
climb a mountain and turn around
-and if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
well the landslide will bring it down
-and if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
well the landslide will bring it down
the landslide will bring it down

I didn't think of it as an option for my dance song with my dad, but I sort of wish it had occurred to me. Only I probably would have bawled, so it's probably a good thing I didn't and stuck with Iz singing "What a Wonderful World/Over the Rainbow".

Dad could be coming home tomorrow! This is great news. He's up walking and looking much better.

Today felt really long. I think I'm emotionally cashed. And I usually sleep like a rock but it's not been great the last week. Some things that made me laugh: a funny somee-card from Fatty, co-workers' jokes, William and Molly. There was also a great interactive game for REM fans where you had to guess the song really fast...I landed in the Top 50 the first time I played! Also, yummy meatloaf for dinner.

Totally stolen from JQ Lounge, but too good not to talk about: Hollywood's Sexy Ugly Men. A few of them have topped my list at one time or another: Benicio, Clive, even Steve Carrell (funny wins!). But I feel I should say that Daniel Craig has never done anything for me.

diamonds are a girl's best friend

To the right, I introduce Blog Love: my list of blogs I've been reading and loving. Some of them I know in real life, others not. There's more to come, I just ran out of time when listing them all, so stay tuned.

And now, to another question: my engagement ring and wedding band. I have a really classic engagement ring--round solitaire on a white gold band. William and I are probably going ring shopping tonight (I have to get mine sized FINALLY after six months), so we thought we'd check out bands to start looking. I'm kind of into the whole mixing stones thing--sapphires or pink sapphires especially--but I'm wondering if other stones will just distract from the solitaire or otherwise look weird if it's on the band. What about diamonds on the band? Should I just go plain? Thoughts?

More praise for Nanette

So it turns out, I know how to link stuff. Only, I have to use Firefox to be able to see the little link button. . . And I was using Safari. Nanette sent me the link that is ON THE BLOGGER SITE to tell you how to link inside your posts . . . duh. Thanks for doing that without being like "hello, stupid..." And the little button, it doesn't show up on the one I was using, which I know that button in another program... anyway. It's that kind of month, people.
So now I will link to Say It because I can.
I will also link to my wedding planner (hopefully). I emailed them this morning and since they are on a five-hour difference, they are probably just rolling into work now. So I keep checking my email like a child waiting for Santa Claus.
Also, never buy Trolli Tropic-O's. HORRIBLE. I like myself some peach rings or apple rings once in a while, so I figured I could trust the tropicalness. Figured there'd be some mango or pineapple. Oh god. What a horrible assumption. Everything tastes like bananas. I have probably never discussed my hatred for bananas here. But I have a serious hatred of bananas. They don't taste that great, people. And besides, the texture is abhorrent. The stringy things, that sliminess in the inside, and then it's so thick, it feels like you can't swallow it and you will choke on the worst fruit ever...die of banana strangulation...Anyway, banana candy is only an extension of this very evil empire, worse than the real thing in taste, but probably better in texture... And my ginger ale is not really helping me get rid of the taste.
Also, for more link fun, here is our Flickr page.
OK, enough is enough. Time to put the lid back on the crazy can.
