8 Days

Sunday morning, 7 a.m. My usual M.O. would be to sleep another three or so hours, maybe lounge around with coffee and the Sunday paper (read: the Target ad), and maybe shower around 1 or 2, with some light cleaning in between. No need to get ambitious on a Sunday, in my mind.

But let me tell you something: I was up at 7:54 this morning. I find this utterly obscene. Just illegal.

I am so tired. I don't know how to drive that point home. My eyes burn, my stomach hurts, my limbs feel like lead many times throughout the day. Then I lie down in bed, and. . . nothing. Eyes wide open. Sometimes I fall asleep right away and as I am sinking, sinking, sinking (ahhhh yes, sweet sleep), I think to myself "Tonight's the night. Full night's rest, dude." And then around, oh, 2 a.m., there I am, wide awake. And then again, maybe around 5 a.m. And then, up for good around 8.

I have tried all manner of things; wearing myself out physically, thinking about sleep, all my usual tricks that usually lull me to slumber every night have failed. Yesterday we went to Art-a-Whirl, typically one of my favorite things to do each year, and I was SO TIRED. I barely spoke the whole day (although I enjoyed it). My brain is simply too deprived to talk about art. (Example: I thought a painting of a tornado was a photograph of a closeup of a grapefruit. After that, no talky-talky.)

I don't know what is going on with me, but I just might go crazy if I don't get some shut-eye soon. For reals.

This morning, William is driving his parents to the airport. The AIRPORT. We are getting to this point now. People are going, they are leaving on the airplane to take their Hawaiian vacation. We leave in FOUR DAYS. In eight, we will be married.

I guess I am like that kid in the Disneyland commercial: I'm too excited to sleep!

That's about all I can figure.

Darling - you can't sleep because you're getting married in 7 DAYS! Come honeymoon time, you'll sleep like a baby. Believe me.

I'm so dang excited for you! And I'll miss you while you're gone!

I've so been there. I hate that feeling, that desperation to sleep! But you have a lot going on, so hopefully once you get to Hawaii you can relax and enjoy. And sleep a little.

Oh yeah - the nerves start to set in close to the wedding date.

But holy crap - 4 days until Hawaii??!? And 8 days until you're married??

Congrats!

I'm so envious. In a few days you'll be in a tropical paradise, surrounded by friends & family, looking stunning in your wedding gown, exchanging vows with the love of your life. I remember the anticipation and excitement leading up to my own wedding day. There's nothing else like that feeling of anticipation ... knowing you get to marry your best friend, and celebrate with your closest friends and family, and feel like all is right with the world.

As far as the insomnia: Maybe take Mo for a really, really, really long walk today/tonight. (Try to wear out your body so your brain doesn't have a choice but to shut off.) If that doesn't work, try counting backwards or spelling different words. You can actually "numb" your brain by making it perform boring tasks (like counting sheep).

I think you need some Ambien. Really. Or Sleepytime tea. Actually the best is Trader Joe's Bedtime Tea, but I don't know if you want to go all the way to Woodbury or St. Louis Park to get some...

Two words for ya: Simply Sleep

I get the feeling you're not into medicated sleeping, but if you are, definitely look into that stuff. It's Tylenol PM without the Tylenol. It helped me through many a sleepless night before I got pregnant.

Sleepless/restless nights are too familiar to me. I also rec Simply Sleep as a non-addicting OTC sleep aid. It helped me out a couple of times too. Hopefully Hawaii will mellow you out properly, but don't be afraid to give something else a try. You need to be well rested for your Big Day! :)
