I have a new respect for people trying to quit just about anything that has become habitual for them.
Tomorrow (today probably for you, dear readers) marks the two-month no-pop mark.
That's right. One of my favorite things in the entire world. None of it.
That's a lie. I had a few tiny sips from my sister's Coke at the Metrodome right after I made my resolve (Metrodome Coke tastes the best!) and then nearly two months went by--and this weekend, I had a couple sips of some grape Crush because William drank it in the car on the way to the lake and I can't quit you, grape smell! I can't!
But they were sips. I haven't cracked a can at home, alone; I haven't ordered a glass of pop out at a restaurant.
I'm changing the habit. I think I've gotten over the hardest part. I still miss it. I wish I could drink it without a stomachache. Or without calories. But I cannot. You understand: I have Dr Pepper t-shirts, necklaces... Dr Pepper is truly one of my favorite things ever invented. And these August days are perfect for an ice-cold, sweaty-canned cream soda.
And because of that, I have to quit it entirely. Just like any other bad habit. One can will lead to two will lead to a 12-pack. After dinner, after breakfast, after a nap. I can't be a social pop drinker. It's good for my stomach, it's good for the scale, it's good for my teeth. It's good for a million reasons.
But I'm still sitting here thinking it would taste so good.
You may think I'm being sarcastic, here. Sadly, sadly. I am not.

1. I totally misread your title as "On Quilting." I thought, "She quilts???"
2. I gave up soda for an entire year. It was great, surprisingly. I avoided most soda up until I got pregnant, oddly enough. Then I couldn't get enough of the fizz from 7UP and root beer. I should consider quitting it again.
when i first read "no-pop," i thought you gave up squeezing zits. sorry, gross, but true. you know where my mind is. ;)
i go for very long stretches without any soda. during school, though, all bets are off. i need the caffeine and sugar to keep me going.
*Heehee* you call it "pop" *Hee Hee*
I quit all drinking of calories (for the most part) when I moved out for college, so like 9 years ago. It's just not worth it. Now juice and soda taste like candy. I can't believe how sweet that stuff is! Good luck, it really is for the best.
I'm so amazed by this. I have tried to seriously cut down my soda intake, but I couldn't give it up completely. I rarely open a can for myself or order a soda with a meal. But I take a lot of sips from other people, and every once in awhile I give in and get a fountain Pepsi because hi, best thing ever.
Point is, I'm truly impressed. I couldn't do what you're doing.
Congratulations on sticking with it, even though it's hard to do.
I gave up most sodas about 6 months ago. However, I do treat myself to an Izze's once in a while. Mmmmm... tastes like fizzy juice!
I gave up all pop when I was pregnant, but have since returned to my one-can-a-day habit. I should follow your lead and "kick the can" habit, too.
Megan--Izze does NOT count. That is carbonated juice. 100%! Drink it guilt free. i'm avoiding all carbonated beverages, but that doesn't mean you have to! :)
So...Diet Dr. Pepper really does taste quite a bit like regular. No calories. But still might bother your stomach. Oh, ignore me. Stay strong! I wish I could quite caffeine. I'm too weak
I used to LOVE Dr. Pepper too. I also have a t-shirt! I still remember the soda fondly.
I haven't had a drink of soda in nearly 2 years. I decided the extra sugar and whatnot just weren't worth it to me (or my teeth). It was tough at first but now I don't even think about it.
