A year ago this month, my life completely changed. I was laid off. I was just a few mere months from my wedding. I'd like to write my thoughts about One Year Later in a coming post.
But one other thing happened that month. I got my first migraine.
It was a silent migraine, which means it was a migraine with no pain, but with blurred peripheral vision and sparkly spots, like someone had just taken my photo. I also had trouble seeing my computer screen. It happened a time or two, then seemed to pass. Over the year, I had a couple more big headaches, a ten-day headache, and most of them approaching migraine-level pain. Then nothing for a long time.
Last night, I had a real migraine. Knocked me on my ass. I felt completely fine until about 8:45. Then, it occrured to me that I was starting to have a headache. No big. I walked into the the bathroom to get some Advil and then--BANG--hit by a bus.
I could barely even blink my eyes. It felt like the insides of my eyelids were glued on with sandpaper. My head felt like it was about to split in half and birth an alien baby. I could hear my pulse in my ears. I couldn't look at anything, as my vision started to halo everything, and then blurred. After about 15 minutes, I crawled into my pajamas, trying to hold my skull together at the same time. Then I crawled under the covers. My pillow hurt, my sheets hurt, the sound of my blankets hurt. Did you know blankets made sounds? They do. At least when you have a migraine.
Today I feel much better, but I still have a dull ache across the back of my head, shoulders and down my jawline. it's controllable with Advil, though.
In any case, I really hate that blurry vision thing. It's weird and scary.
And that's about all from this frozen, frozen land. I tried firing March, but March did not listen.
Jerk.

Oh honey, migraines are simply the worst, most horrible, awful thing ever. I'm so sorry you get them too. Be sure to get yourself to a doctor and get some meds if possible. Start with the lowest dose and see how they work.
I get abnormal migraines like your silent ones. Only, sometimes I also lose articulation! That scared me enough to go to a doctor - had a MRI and they told me that I basically have to ride them out... which SUCKS. I totally feel you on the crappy blurry vision. That's the first sign for me and it blows. Sorry!
thanks, ladies, for your support! i don't get them often so i'm hoping maybe they'll just go away on their own.
adriana, what's your blog? when i clicked i got a "private profile" type of page.
Oof. I hope your migraines get better.
I hate March, too.
I can't get over how different our climates are. Winter is SO last year. LOL.
Sorry about the headaches. I hope they stay rare.
I had a migraine once in college, and the pain was so intense it made me throw up three times. I remember lying in my bunk just hoping my roommate wouldn't come in and turn on the light. It was horrible. (Not as bad as childbirth, but right up there.)
I think my migraine was stress-induced. Do you think that has anything to do with it?
Excedrin. It's my headache medicine. Give it a whirl. And Excedrin Migraine is no different, so don't bother.
Feel better. At least March is almost halfway done now, right?
I've never had a true migraine, but I get really bad headaches a lot. It's awful how when your head hurts you can't function - you can't think straight or see straight. I hope your head gets its shit together soon.
Oops! That's weird!

i'm so sorry about your migraine. i've had one in my whole life and it knocked me out for an entire DAY.
on another note, i can't believe it's been a whole year since your layoff! my, how time flies. i hope that you find yourself happier now than you were then.
I get those aural ones, but not yet the hit-by-bus ones. (*knocking frantically on Advil bottle*)
