so today, i found two pairs of flats--on sale! exciting. i'm looking for some colored shoes, because most of what i own now is black, gray, or brown in various styles. now that my wardrobe is mostly black and gray (am i a new yorker at heart? i never get sick of either color), i feel like i need some color somewhere, and shoes seem like agood place to start.
here was what i really wanted:

and

but as you can see, imposing heels. 4 1/4 inches? out of control. do you know, for one thing, how tall that makes me? about five-eleven. no, not necessary. cameron diaz i am not. for my balance and my back health.
ok, so then i found these:

and these, which i got in that same dark purple as the toe on the other one (there were none left on the website):

so i think i did pretty well.
it was an unplanned shopping trip with my mom. one second i was helping her with her computer, and the next my car was driving itself to the mall with her in the passenger seat. this happens, sometimes, when we get together, and i have to say, it is some of the best free time i spend. i love that my mom and i are such good friends.
my mom is an awesome lady. she is funny, smart, helpful, generous, beautiful, and very kind. she has always put everyone else first, her whole life. she loves being a mom and it shows. i often think to myself that my mom is a far better mother than i will ever be. she always let my siblings and i do our own thing, encouraging us every step of the way. she always loved us, without reserve or condition. she's imaginative and resourceful. she is a great listener and loyal. she has taught me so many things about being a good person and living a good life. she cries with you and laughs with you. and sometimes tells you to laugh when you want to cry. if i grow into half the woman she is, i'd consider my life to be pretty successful.
i'm lucky because i'm entering into a family where i get a mother-in-law who is great, too. she has accepted me into the family, including me and making me feel comfortable. she shares cooking tips with me and shows me her latest crafty projects (you name the craft, this woman has done it). she is always telling me about the bargains she gets--talk about resourceful! one of the best parts about her is her giggle. she has a really funny sense of humor, almost bordering on an impish way--like she's been naughty, but she's one of the least naughty people i know. she is a good person, inside and out, very devout, but also loves to have a good time. she has really supported william and i in our endeavors, which means a lot to us. i look forward to getting to know her even better as time wears on; i know that eventually i will have even more nice things to say of her. i feel extremely lucky to be gaining another strong woman in my life. you can never have too many of those.
i got a good deal.
